RAZORBACK TRIATHLON

Students representing the Arkansas Triathlon Club at Collegiate National Championships, Spring 2017.

The Arkansas Razorback Triathlon Club is a student-led club sports team that was founded in the Fall of 2011 by just a couple students. The club has grown to over 18 participating members and many members have attended USAT Collegiate Nationals.  As a 2013 sophomore, student-triathlete Maggie Pickhardt placed 29th nationally.  Our mission is to grow the sport of triathlon by inviting students to try our club. We compete against other schools in the South-Midwest Collegiate Conference (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas).

TRIATHLON

What is a triathlon?

A triathlon consists of swimming, biking, and running. They sound intimidating, but completing a triathlon of any distance is one of the most rewarding feelings.

How much does this cost?

On top of membership dues, someone new to the sport should expect to pay $600-$1000 to get started. The biggest initial cost is a bike. If you don't have a bike, don't worry; many of our members started without bikes! Other costs include running shoes, a helmet, and swim suit. Come practice with us and give the sport a try!

What are the distances?

The collegiate races are Olympic distance which is a 1500m swim, a 24.9mi bike, followed up by a 6.2mi run. Some members compete in Sprint distance as well (about half of the Olympic distance).

What if I've never done a triathlon?

That's ok! We want to encourage all students to try triathlons. Experienced members are glad to help new triathletes! The community of triathlon is unlike any other because many of its members strive to help others achieve their goals! You can start by learning each of the sports and members know the best places to buy a bike used!
